“The Inspirer”
My name is Jim Holden, the founder of Fish for Life. I live in San Clemente, California and I am an avid salt water angler.
I have a dear friend, Jeffrey Kutcher who has cerebral palsy.
Jeffrey and I have had many lunches over the years and often times we have talked about fishing. During one lunch in 2009 I asked Jeffrey, "Let's go do something together, what would you like to do?" Well with a big smile Jeffrey replied "I'd love to go fishing!"
On the way back to the office that day from lunch with Jeffrey a calling from God was revealed!
This was the very beginning of “Fish for Life”!
God began pouring in ideas one after another!
Ideas like,
Why not take a BOATLOAD of kids with Cerebral Palsy fishing?!
Why limit the trips to kids with cerebral palsy, why not include kids with other special needs?
Why not include some kids who are struggling with drug or alcohol issues or discipline problems?
How about introducing these little angels with a red carpet introduction!
Why not involve non-special needs kids & adults to serve them?
How about inviting speakers to honor the kids and their families!
Why not have everyone wear a cool T-Shirt?
What about a name for this program, How about Fish for Life!
And so on and so on!
As plans were developing, I told Jeff that I wanted to make him business cards with the title of his choice. I suggested “First Mate” or “Crew” or a variety of other titles and then after deep consideration Jeff produced a big smile and said “Inspirer”!
I would now like to introduce the “Inspirer” of Fish for Life, my buddy Jeff Kutcher
Since the first trip in 2010 we have launched 12 Fish for Life trips with 100 people attending per voyage!
"We're Spreading the Love One Boat at a Time!"
I'm hopeful the Fish for Life experience will inspire many people to take action with the ideas God blesses us all with to help make our world a better and more loving experience!
To God be the Glory!
Jim
